Although it is filled with many established residents from retirees and empty nesters, it’s also a great place for singles, first-time home buyers and those with children. In fact, Devonshire is in close proximity to a number of exemplary private schools like Wesley Prep, Saint Mark’s and Hockaday. It’s also not uncommon for young families to buy starter homes here and then move into the Park Cities when their children are of age for the nationally ranked public schools.

Green Spaces

Bluffview features a rare combination of hilly topography and distinctive terrain yet rests just minutes from Dallas Love Field Airport, the SMU campus in University Park, and all things Dallas. Nearby Bachman Lake is a favorite spot for an afternoon stroll, and on any given day you’ll see people fishing, walking, jogging, and biking around its three-mile waterfront. Just as the morning fog lifts from the quiet waters, you can catch the SMU crew team rowing.

Lifestyle

The small pocket of homes situated between University Park to the east and Bluffview to the west is known as Devonshire. While still retaining much of its original character, Devonshire is a charming neighborhood that delivers big on location and scenery. Residents love the meandering roads and countryside feel with lush green spaces and mature trees, but it’s also the camaraderie of the neighbors that keep people here.

Architecture

Devonshire has a reputation for beautiful Austin stone cottages and smaller, post-war homes that offer tremendous character, and impressive drive-up appeal. Block by block, you’ll find great opportunities to make a life here in a home that offers everything you could want whether you are a young couple just starting out or an empty nesters seeking to downsize.

Shopping and Dining

For many, Devonshire is an escape from the lively city without sacrificing on location. Let’s say you prefer a leisurely day of boutique shopping or want to grab a bite to eat in a quaint cafe. Inwood Village is within walking and biking distance and offers both. It’s been a landmark retail destination since 1949, offering a unique collection of signature shops and some of the best restaurants in town, like rise – a salon de soufflé and wine bar.

Perhaps the city lights of Reunion Tower and AT&T Performing Arts Center are calling your name? It’ll take you just a short drive to get there, and once you’ve arrived, your toughest decision will be choosing between the many entertainment districts Dallas has to offer.  From Bishop Arts to The West End, Klyde Warren Park to Deep Ellum, you’re sure to love the city’s vibrant culinary arts scene, recognized museums and spectacular performance venues.

Community

Devonshire is a place where you get to know your neighbors and there’s never a shortage of community events to celebrate year-round, thanks to the Devonshire neighborhood association. The annual Chili Cook-Off brings everyone together in the fall, while summertime allows kids to get out and grab a snow cone at the 4th of July Parade. There’s even a long-standing Garden Club that meets regularly to maintain the community garden on Devonshire Drive, and dog-walking groups, running clubs, and kids playing ball are all part of the culture here.
